Spring Walk by the Willamette

We went on a weekend school hike, but went to the end of the hike first, so we were hiking by ourselves for the first part of the hike. We were delighted to find deer and ducks, and would have loved the tadpool pond, but we had to skip the pond in order to catch the group. Ruby rescued the ducklings, too!

Ruby saved these ducks, just a few minutes after I took this picture! Mama duck took off under the chain link fence to the left, and the ducklings did their best to follow her, but most of them couldn’t make it across the tracks. She quacked at them for a while from the other side, and we were all worried, so Ruby squeezed under, too, and attempted to scoop them over. They were so terrified of her, most of them made it over from pure adrenaline fueled hopping, and mama beat it for the bushes, but there was one little one that couldn’t quite make it, and Ruby gave him a little boost over. They all quacked off in the general direction of mama, and all was presumably well.
