Musée des arts et métiers

MORE +

We went to the history of technology museum with Johannes. It was actually right down the street from our apartment. It was a very enjoyable visit. Ruby didn’t like it so much, and I think C would have liked it more if she hadn’t been bugging him because she was bored… but such is sibling life. My fondest memory is the (former?) cathedral next door that has been filled with technological relics. A most sensible use for a cathedral.

C around Foucault’s pendulum

2010 April 18 · 1:18PM · Sunday

The museum website says this is an original of Foucault’s Pendulum. This museum/church was featured in Umberto Eco’s book of the same name.

⁓ Katy · 2010 May 16 · 12:49AM

When we went I had just finished reading Foucault’s pendulum. It made my trip to the museum much more interesting. The building spins around the pendulum; the pendulum is actually still while the world moves around it.

At least, mathematically that’s true.

areoplanes in a priory

It’s a priory and not a cathedral because it’s one long building, not cross shaped. That sounds like such an old fashioned word!
