C’s writing

I’ve been trying to teach C to read and write, since he’s not learning at school. He’s making slow but steady progress (mostly slow because I forget to work with him on it every day). These are little slips he wrote after sounding out the words.

He cut the “u” out of this word for some reason, and only kept the “u”.

I wrote “fox”, he traced it, and then wrote his own.

We don’t have any other pictures from this week! This will have to be the weekly picture … I tried hard to get C excited about reading and writing. I really put a lot of effort into crafting Montessori-type materials without spending a lot of money. He would do it sometimes, but was never really gripped by the magic of writing (which according to Montessori theory should come before reading), and didn’t find a strong motivation to read until 3 or 4 years after this. Every child learns at their own pace, but I was so eager to watch the process! I had a hard time being patient.
