Chocolate on a Spring Day

A couple of weeks ago, we took our brand new thermos out for a test drive. We packed up a lunch of waffles and brunost. And the thermos provided us with hot chocolate up at Akershus. It was a lovely spring day, bright and sunny (Ruby says “sparkly” in a grumpy voice when it gets in her eyes). It was a tad windy, but the hot chocolate was just right to warm us up.

I love how Ruby’s sweater blends in with the greens and oranges in this picture. Akershus is a very old fortress in the area, with parts of it built at different times throughout the centuries. It’s ages really well. I love this little window!

The lintel says “1657.” That’s old! I think that’s about the time that my first ancestors (that I know about) were coming to the Americas.

Can you tell I was standing in the same place, taking pictures of Chris and Ruby up ahead of me, and C running around down the hill behind me?

Can you tell Ruby picked her outfit? Pink polka dot dress, purple flower pants, green and orange sweater. I guess no one is born with fashion sense.

Sunday Picture (with Chris)!

This week was Påske Ferie, Easter vacation. Chris went to work for some of the week, and stayed home some. We brought him lunch at work on Monday. I’ve tried to keep C busy at home this week with cutting work, and lots of maths work. Tuesday night I had a chat date with Missy and she asked me to be in her wedding! Woohoo! Wednesday night was a no-game game night. Only Stanislav came over, and we just chatted. Thursday was the big waffle/hot chocolate picnic (this pic). On the way home we had coffee at Strofleths, sat outside in the sun, hmmmmm. Friday didn’t do much, except menu-plan and grocery shop in anticipation of the three! and a half! days the stores are closed because it’s freaking Easter. Saturday Lauren took the kids to Karl’s house to experience his unusually large bathtub, with bubble jets. I guess C was a little unsure about it at first, but everyone ended up having a good time. Then Karl and Lauren came back to our place for dinner. Thai food! Laarp lettuce wraps, coconut shrimp soup, and warm steamy rice.

C has been recognizing a lot of letters and asking how to say written words. He’s also been saying he should write his name with “s” in front because that’s how you say it. He and Chris have been playing a lot of computer games lately, the newest one being Age of Empires. You start out with a little villager and you have to do things like gather berries and chop wood to build your village. My big project this week was knitting a pair of mittens. I got one mostly done, with a lot of tweaking of the pattern because of a yarn substitution. Me and my stupid yarn substitutions! The weather all week was mild and sunny, very spring-like. Except for a freak snow on the weekend.

C, Ruby, Chris enjoy a 2nd picnic

2007 April 5 · 12:07PM · Thursday

We ate out waffle lunch before we got up on the windy fortress hill, but C wanted seconds by the time we were done running around on top. So we polished off the waffles. Chris is enjoying some hot chocolate in one of the spiffy mugs that came with our thermos. They are very light, and easy to transport with the thermos.
