Stavanger

Stavanger was a lovely little city that we saw hardly any of. We got off the boat in the evening, stumbled to the hotel and into bed. The fjord cruise on Lysefjorden started mid-morning, and when we got back to the dock it started raining so we just headed straight out to the airport for our flight to Oslo. All in all, I’d like to see more of Stavanger someday.

We were feeding the swans carrots, but the carrots sunk.

I think they were also feeding them crackers or something; I’m not sure the swans would have come over for only carrots.

It’s the Norwegian version of having a rusty car on blocks in your front yard.

Lysefjord was lovely and nice, but in my opinion the fjord we were on the first day of the trip was 100 times cooler. It was more narrow, and the sides higher, the villages cuter, all around more awesome.

I didn’t catch the tour guide talking about this one… no idea what it was.

Sorry, but I only had a few seconds to get the shot, and this is what I got.

Anyway, this was at the base of one of the cliffs on Lysefjorden. We just drove right up to them.

It felt pretty staged. They came running over when they saw the boat coming, and the boat crew came over and tossed them a loaf of bread.

Those crazy Norwegians, always with the bread…

Apparently you can take a bus to the beginning of the trail to the top, but I didn’t find out until we got back to Oslo.

I had hoped to get pictures of my newly knit shawl on the boat, but the other passengers were pretty competitive with the good views. We did end of getting some nice shots (I’ll put them up later with more details on the shawl, for those who care!)

We went right up next to a waterfall, and this guy got some in a bucket. It was a bit on the yellow side, but tasted great.

Some people collected water from a waterfall. They let us taste it.

When we got back from the fjord cruise, it was raining so we went to lunch and then it was still raining, so we went to the cathedral.

I lit the candle and Papa put it in the candle holder. And that’s a very silly candle holder. I wish I could put in two.

Nice skull at the bottom there — and right above it, is that one of Reubens’ models moonlighting in Norway?
