Matching Hat and Mittens

This is sort of a May-June crossover from the Knitter’s Almanac. After I finished the mittens for Ruby, there was plenty of yarn left over and I felt a confluence in the mitered nature of the mittens and the construction of the hat. Ruby was immediately in love with them, and wore them on the way to school today, even though it was like 20 C out (70° F).

three corners has Ruby’s hat

In my opinion the head band of this was way too shallow, and after the hat was all finished, I picked up the stitches and knit down another 5 rows or so. I knit one other hat with this same pattern, different yarn (which was more to the guage of the pattern) and it was also too shallow.

The shawl I knit in July was much bigger, though.
