It was a little chilly
2006 December 26 · 12:03PM · Tuesday
It was sort of windy. I’m glad I thought to bring the children’s rain boots and rain coats. The hats were both brought by Grandma Susie.

I was not overwhelmed with the fantasticness of Portuguese cuisine, but what marvelous picnics we had! Hearty bread, soft goat cheeses, matured goat cheeses, stuffed red peppers, tomato, apple (the produce was great), salt-and-vinegar chips, and sardines. Yum.

This was one of the tide pools we found. those shiny blobs at the top of the shot are folded-up anemones.

Don’t worry, Grandma Susie was just outside the shot keeping an eye on her!

I think there were little fishies in this one, but they didn’t show up.

We had fun exploring the rocks. The formations were dramatic, and unexpected (lots of little nooks) and it made for lots of nice tide pools.

I wasn’t able to get a good picture of the interior of the cave, but it was very large. Probably about as big or bigger than the average living room, and the ceiling was higher than our high ceilings in Oslo.

I wanted a picture of me knitting on the beach, and this seemed like a very nice beach. I wish we didn’t look so bundled, though. It’s sort of incongruous to the “beach” idea.

This is the ceiling of a rather impressively large cave. Or what used to be an impressively large cave, but now is just a big hole.

Chris: “Is this camera on?”
The day after Christmas we visited the beach at Portimão again, having checked the tide tables to catch low tide. We found all sorts of neat shells and things and were able to explore more of the caves and rock formations along the water’s edge.
