Lego Fun Time — April 22, 2010 |
The Lego people are touring around Europe making progressively taller and taller towers (so that in each city they can say they set a new world record). After each tower is built, they take it down and send the tiers to a school somewhere for the kids to dismantle (they earn money as a fundraiser) and then the bricks are shipped to a new city to build a yet-taller tower. A pretty good PR scheme. The public is invited to help, and when they came to Oslo we were happy to lend a hand. We made our very own pine-tree wall. Though it looks sort of like the flag of Lebanon.

Parc Floral — April 19, 2010 |
Paris Walks With Kids suggested to combine a visit to this park with the visit to the fortress. It was really great. We admired the flowers, got a picnic, rented a bicycle built for four, played at the playground, rode on horse-cycles and topped off the visit with ice cream. It was a really great day.

Spring Planting — March 15-30, 2010 |
C and I planted a bunch of seeds early this year, to get a jump start in the garden. We planted summer squash, and another squash called “pumpa” (seeds weren’t ours, so I don’t even know what kind of squash that is supposed to be). We also planted many different kinds of cucumber, hoping to make some good pickles this year (and avoid paying $10 for a jar of regular dill pickles). We have Boston cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, and something called “Spacemaster Bush”. I don’t think I even need to make a joke about that.

Helping Hands — March 15, 2010 |
I recycled this yarn from a second-hand sweater, and the kids were helping me swift it up. More fun than you’d think! We were making quite small skeins (I don’t know why) and they happened to be just big enough to fit around a kid’s head. So the kids ran around with funny headdresses for a while. The yarn was all curly, of course, and later that night I washed it and hung it up to dry. The next morning, Ruby came running to me and said “Mama! I didn’t believe you, but those head things are straight now!” A miracle!

Lauren was watching the girls and took this funny picture of them playing with the wagon. Thanks to Grandma Wendy for both of the girls’ outfits!

Apl Strutting her Stuff — Apr 8, 2010 at 8:54 am |
Apl the Tiny Toddler had been demanding increased independence. She doesn’t always like sitting in the sling/backpack anymore, but she isn’t quite mobile enough to keep up with us walking yet. I try to give her plenty of time to walk, when we are not in a hurry.

Viking Day — May 16, 2010 at 1 pm |
We went to a viking fair at the viking ship museum. It turned out to be a rainyish day, but we still enjoyed a viking fashion show, flatbread (cooked by an Opera employee) and a very long visit to the smith.
