Not Safe For Work? — May 27, 2010 |
Not safe for work maybe, but safe for a children’s shoe store apparently. (Lille Grensen Sko for those of you in Oslo who want to experience it for yourselves). Can cultural gulfs really be so wide?

The After-Party — May 29, 2010 |
When the thunder and lightning were done, it turns out that it had only rained a little bit and it was mostly all dried up by the end of the party. So we went outside for one of the planned party activities, Bubble Mayhem! Grandma Wendy gave the kids bubble kits with various kinds of bubble wands and it was super fun to share them at the party.

C’s Birthday Celebration — May 29, 2010 |
We got rained out of our original party picnic plans, but after an original party cancellation we made do with having the party at our apartment with just the neighbors. It was a super fun party, even though it was different than I originally planned for.

This was C’s birthday dinner (Chris got the idea on the internet). Seems like it should be the central dish in some FSM festival.

Going Medieval at the Fortress — May 2, 2010 |
For “Tourist in Your Own City” Day we got our free tickets to the Akershusfestning, the fortress above the harbor. There was a small medieval exhibition, with a blacksmith, archery, etc. The costumes was the best part, it made me want to take up sewing again (especially the baby costumes, adorable!) C got to try archery for the very first time ever, and he got back in line for it about 5 or 6 times. After we enjoyed the exhibition outside we toured through the castle, which is beautifully furnished, but dark, so not good for taking photographs!

Medeival Handcrafting — May 2, 2010 at 3 pm |
Nålebinding is like the medeival handcraft. We’ve been to a couple of these viking/medeival festivals in Oslo lately, and many of the hats and socks are nålebinded (is that the correct conjugation of that verb?) I talked to one of the ladies who was nålebinding a little bit, and she said that it predates knitting. She said it is quite a bit slower than knitting, which I guess would explain why knitting got more popular. Judging from the samples I saw, it makes a hardy thick fabric similar to crochet. Nice and cozy!
