Ruby, Chris, Katy, C in the snow picnic — Jan 8, 2008 at 12:56 pm |

What a fun way to top off the week! Mom went back to Iowa, and Lauren returned from her trip. I got my new fermentor and we set it up. We (and by “we” I mean mostly Dad) did a lot of work on the kitchen while the kids were back in school and I was back at work.

We had thai food with the usual sweet, sour, spicy, and bitter flavors that we highlighted in our wedding ceremony. 6 years! Wow! This was Ruby’s first full week at Treklang. Also, we bottled my first batch of wine. Wheeee! We had a super fun picnic with Alf Eivind and his family. We went out to the forest with Ethan and his friends this week, and then had an extended stay in Frognerpark where we had a pizza picnic.

C and the Sea Monkeys — Jun 11, 2007 at 8:32 am |
Our dear friend Mercedes sent C a birthday package, including some Sea Monkeys. We didn’t start them right away, but C was excited about them when we did. I think they are kind of creepy! Lauren supervised the initial birth and care-taking of the sea monkeys, but it’s fallen to me to do the “aerating” (pouring them back and forth in another glass to get oxygen in the water). It’s too delicate for the kids to do, but they love simulating it with any two glasses and liquid they can find. Aside from the Sea Monkeys, it’s been a quiet week. The weather is still really nice. I’m still knitting and sewing a lot. Ruby was feeling a little sick, but quickly got over it.

Ruby on the Balcony — Jun 8, 2007 at 2:55 pm |
No pictures of Chris this week, or me, but here’s C. It’s been really really hot here, so I threw a bunch of pillows and blankets on the balcony and it’s been our new home. Our all-covering sun shade, combined with that stripey privacy-guard, means the kids are fairly penned in. About the most they can throw off are blocks, puzzle pieces, and underwear (yes, they did), but not themselves (or each other). We’ve been eating outside and doing just about everything we can outside. Tuesday Chris stayed home until after lunch because of the late phone meeting. It was nice to spend some relaxed morning time with him and Ruby. Wednesday saw another game night, this time Carcasonne and Fist of Dragon Stones. C’s school has been almost exclusively outside for like 2 weeks now. We worried that he was getting too much sun and kept him home Thursday and Friday. He’s also overheating because he has an issue with short sleeved shirts and is still insisting on wearing his long sleeve winter shirts. I’ve been doing lots of knitting. This week also marked the beginning of the Healthy Living Lifestyle Change, at Chris’s suggestion (!). We propose to drink less beer and coffee, less fatty foods, and healthier evening snacks. We’ll see!

C, Katy, Chris — May 28, 2007 at 2:02 pm |

… and with Ruby that makes a Sunay Picture. C’s birthday was Monday. 4 years old! It was some kind of national religious holiday, so we had the party on that day. The party was a big success. We had waffles, smoothies, coffee/tea, tortillas and chips, bean dip, queso, and quacamole. Yummo! The weather was crappy, though. Tuesday C was back at school and outside the whole day again. At least the weather calmed down. We brought ice cream treats for everyone and they celebrated C’s birthday. They sing, get a special table with a friend for lunch, and blow out a candle on a pretend cake (a decorated paper box). And Tuesday Chris had to go to Sweden for work all week. I watched a few different episodes of things (finished Andromeda — ouch) and did a lot of knitting. Restarted the cotton top, examined and restarted the lace project 5 times! Saturday Chris returned triumphant from the duty-free store and we made Bananas Foster with Lauren (or “banana flosters” as the kids called it). Chris and I started playing Titan Quest again because of the expansion pack. It’s a good game!

Ethan came to visit us — May 12, 2007 at 8:15 am |
Monday I found out that Ethan was coming to visit. He had a job interview! Monday and Tuesday were otherwise uneventful except for swapping out the summer wardrobes One of those funny little things that marks the changing of the seasons. Ethan arrived Wednesday in the afternoon. The children enjoyed meeting him and they had a lot of fun. We had a mextacular dinner, and then game night. Friday Ethan and I had a walking tour of Oslo, trying to hit the neighborhoods he might be interested in living in. Turns out we hit just about everywhere except where he’ll probably live. That night Ethan and I went out with Lauren to an Irish pub, Qba, and Garasje. I made Ethan stay out later than he would’ve wanted, I think… it was nice of him to stay. Ethan left Saturday morning, and the rest of the day was pretty quiet. Sunday we went to the park and had a little picnic. It was kind of chilly. I knitted. I started a cotton top based on “Isabella” in Knitty. I experimented with the purple alpaca for a lacy shrug, and debated the lace item for Missy’s wedding. I’m interested in starting lace knitting and a wedding seemed like a good opportunity. Chris has just been plugging along doing normal work things. He doesn’t talk about work so much, not as much as he used to.

Johannes, Us, Thai Food — Apr 25, 2007 at 4:51 pm |
I’ve been inspired to make Thai food recently. We found a new Asian food store pretty near to us, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. As for the rest of the week, we skipped dugnad at C’s school on Monday and went to IKEA to get new lamps. Friday C went to work with Chris. Saturday we picked up the hand-me-down bike from one of Chris’s coworkers. Already C is a little too big for it! Sunday was a trip out to Lillestrøm. I checked out a moving sale of a New-to-Oslo member and got a couple sweaters’ worth of yarn to recycle. Also this week C and I have been getting up early to work on reading/writing before he goes to school. I don’t know what he is doing at school, but it’s not this. And he’s really ready for it, and it’s really exciting. And! We put away the diapers for good this week. Ruby is officially and totally day-and-night potty trained. She’s been for a while, actually, I was just too lazy to put the diapers away. Will we get them out again? When … ?
