So, someone actually did tell me the story recently, but of course I can’t remember all the particulars. It was during a time of some upheaval in like the 1500’s or something and the royal family was under threat. So they had to spirit away the heir to a safe cabin somewhere in the woods. Two bold warriors undertook the task and carried the little tyke, skiing of course, off into the mountains. They still have a “Birkebeiner” skiing competition where you have to ski a long distance carrying a heavy weight.

Just like the days of yore, when they carried their infants into battle! (Or is that his baby doll? It’s hard to tell). There’s got to be a story behind this one, but I don’t know it.
