Page 8 of Violet’s Album — 1923

There was just one picture left on this page. Others had fallen off. I think I’ve identified another picture as belonging on this page, though.

page 8 — 1923

Poor page 8 — only one picture left! I think I’ve found the leftmost missing one of Carl. Center says “How I looked when I graduated from Grammar School.” I don’t know where this picture is, though.

(untitled) — 1923

So I think this is the picture that belongs on this page. At least, it seemed like it to me. Violet wrote: “Carl Scherman. This picture was taken somewhere in Oak Park” I guessed the date; Carl and Violet met around 1923, and in 1920 Carl was living with Kurt and Helen in Oak Park.

Two nice girls — 1923

I guessed the date on this one; it’s more or less correct. Violet wrote “Pearl Crandall and Therese taken at Lester Lake, Michigan.” Then jean wrote “left Aunt Tess” on the bottom of the actual photo, but I don’t think that is Aunt Tess. The smaller blonde girl is Pear Crandall, a neighbor and friend of Violet. But the other girl doesn’t look like Theresa (Tess), Violet’s sister. The hair’s not right, and the eyes are totally different.

Sweet Sixteen — June, 1923

Someone, I assume Violet, wrote “Sweet Sixteen, June 1923” on this photo. I did not think either of these girls looked like Violet, but Grandma said it was. It was not in an album when I found it. These are the two same girls as on page 9. But the captions for the photos missing from that page don’t fit this one, and this photo is vertically oriented whereas the missing ones are horizontally oriented. I think this one belongs here on page 8, in the center: “How I looked when I graduated from Grammar School.”
