Because merely solving a Rubik’s Cube is just too easy. The first one here was Anders’s idea: rotate a subcube (and rotate the subcube on the opposite side in the opposite direction, because it’s impossible to rotate only one corner cubie). Then I wanted to see if I could checker a 4x4x4 cube. (Checkering odd-numbered cubes is easy — C can checker the 7x7x7 in about a minute.) The standard checkering (opposite colors) is impossible, so I tried a different coloring. But, no, it’s just not possible… that last corner cubie will not be in the position (well, rotation, actually) you want it to be in. But if I only show you the front of it…
