C was bored with the exhibit that wasn’t exactly what he was hoping for, and he wanted to go into the regular exhibit area.

Before we went to the regular area (which is more like a taxidermy museum, really old-school natural history stuff!), we checked out the more interesting side of the new exhibit. This was about our recent ancestors, and we talked a lot about the metaphor of a tree used in this context. At the cafe we drew a little family tree, too.

Then he wanted me to take his picture with all the animals at the front of the exhibit. These were here under a sign that said something to the effect of “how could so many different yet similar forms of animals be present on earth?” The little sign at the bottom, though, says “We are old and delicate. Please don’t touch us!”
The zoology museum opened a new exhibit entitled “Darwin: Can We Ever Forgive Him?” or something along those lines. C has been very interested in evolution lately, so we went to see what it was about. It was a lot about how he developed the theory, not really about evolution itself. And unfortunately there was quite a lot about why various people find the theory hard to swallow.
