Norway in a Nutshell

2009 August 2, Sunday · Norway, Europe

MORE +

Wow! We couldn’t help but take tons of pictures on this day. What a whirlwind! We started with the early morning train in Oslo. Then another train, a boat, a bus, and another train. We arrived in Bergen in the early evening, with just enough time to discover that I chose a hotel right next to a good Mexican restaurant!

Dave noticed that Apple symbol there on the Rallarvegen sign. Apple chose it sorta randomly, I’ve heard. I think it means campgrounds on European maps.

at the waterfall

2009 August 2 · 1:42PM · Sunday

We switched trains to a little tourist train, which let us off for a bit to look at this awesome waterfall. After the train was stopped a minute or two, a couple of girls came out and danced around in the spray. Supposedly there are myths about mysertious maidens luring people into the falls.

yet another adorable village on the fjord

2009 August 2 · 3:59PM · Sunday

A lot of these little villages had incredible stories… I think this was the one with the smallest church in Norway — big enough for 4! (If I remember correctly.) Some of the villages had no road access. One of them was part of Norway’s early postal system and it had its own post office from the 1600s (sometime) until 1990. There were sheep and tiny farms and lots of waterfalls.

I definitely felt that this was the best part of the trip. Totally breathtaking. I was sad when it was over.

⁓ Katy · 2009 Aug 25 · 11:30PM

It definitely was a living fjord. Lysefjord was more dramatic and stark… but it wasn’t alive.
