Visit to Langøyene with Moms

2009 June 12, Friday · Oslo, Norway

MORE +

Ethan’s mom just got into town, and so we had a little mom-get-together and went out to Langøyene, walked back along the harbour, and had dinner in Aker Brygge. It was a rainy day, but we made the most of it and I think everyone had fun.

Langøyene” means literally “the long islands” even though it’s just one island today. It used to be two very close together, but around the 1900s they sunk barges between them and filled it up with trash. After it was all full, they planted grass ontop. That’s what you see here.

On the way back on the ferry, we noticed that there was some sort of gathering at the naval station on the harbor. We walked through and saw this boat, and some submarines from various nations, as well as some sort of dedication ceremony.

So they had this thing set up with a rope pulled by a motor, and the people hold on and do water skiing tricks (except it wasn’t skis, it was like a snowboard). Most people didn’t make it past the first pool, though.

He was chatting with him for quite a while. C has absolutely no problem talking with strangers. Just ask anyone who has ever walked underneath our balcony.
