Sled Day — January 8, 2008 |
||
|
Unlike our first year here, when we went sledding all the time, the last two winters have been sadly snowless. We had a couple of weeks this year of good snow, though, and we dragged Grandpa Randy up to the forest to take advantage of it. We brought a little snow picnic which amused all passeresby.

Yes, I’m sitting on the train finishing the knitting on the hat for my dad. The one he is going to wear when we get where we are going.

Grandpa pulling Ruby — Jan 8, 2008 at 12:16 pm |

We need to get a new sled… we’ve pulled the kids in this sled so much, which you have to do with a rope around the handle so it’s beind pulled sideways, and the bottom is all scratched in the wrong direction. That means that when they try to actually slide down a hill with it, it immediately turns sideways in the direction of the grooves.

Chris and Ruby headed down — Jan 8, 2008 at 12:37 pm |

There was a lot of snow kicking up, which you can see what pretty unpleasant for Ruby and Chris. It wasn’t until we saw the pictures afterword that we realized Ruby was dragging one of her feet in the front, kicking up all the snow!

It was a long way down this hill, but not as far as some of the other trails — there’s one that goes two train stops down the line!

We decided we had enough sledding and headed up to find a nice picnic spot.

Grandpa, Katy, Ruby, C picnicing — Jan 8, 2008 at 12:55 pm |

We spread out our picnic blanket and tarp. (Ok, it’s a shower curtain, but important for damp forest floors. Or snow banks.) And cracked open our new picnic basket. It was fun, but a little chilly on the bum after a while.

Ruby, Chris, Katy, C in the snow picnic — Jan 8, 2008 at 12:56 pm |

What a fun way to top off the week! Mom went back to Iowa, and Lauren returned from her trip. I got my new fermentor and we set it up. We (and by “we” I mean mostly Dad) did a lot of work on the kitchen while the kids were back in school and I was back at work.

Randy and Katy in hats — Jan 8, 2008 at 1:41 pm |

The hat I’m wearing was a first attempt that turned out too small on dad (and even a bit small on me). It only took a few hours to knit, though, so I just whipped out another one.
