Consolation Trip to the Zoo — September 10, 2007

C was very much looking forward to going to the Portland Children’s Museum, and we made a date with Orion and mama Sally (they’d never been there!). When we arrived, though, we were super bummed to see it was closed for renovations all week! Luckily it shares a parking lot with the zoo, so we were able to have a good time anyway. We brought a picnic and enjoyed a nice long sunny afternoon.

C and the big engine — Sep 10, 2007 at 10:37 am

When C saw this big engine sitting there, he said “Is that rusty old engine resting his weary wheels?” (Straight from The Little Engine That Could :)

This big engine was at the Forestry Center, which also shares the parking lot with the Children’s Museum and the Zoo. C took a look while we waited for Sally.

Ruby looking at the fishies — Sep 10, 2007 at 11:25 am

The was in the Northwest habitat at the zoo. It’s a tank with salmon and other northwest-native water-life.

Ruby makes the most hilarious faces — Sep 10, 2007 at 11:25 am

Ruby is making this face because she’s getting splashed. The glass wall there only goes up another 4 feet or so, then it’s open to the tank. A waterfall flows out into the tank infront of this opening, causing splashing sometimes.

You can see the top edge of the walol there, and the water splashing on the other side (and this side, too!)

C watching the fish — Sep 10, 2007 at 11:26 am

We saw this exhibit last time we were in Portland, when it first opened. Boy, how C’s changed.

I’m having a hard time thinking of anything cuter than Orion right now.

the bear is sneaking up on Ruby — Sep 10, 2007 at 11:40 am

Don’t worry, there is a big glass wall there. The bear was just walking back and forth, back and forth, in front of the wall.

Sally, C, and Orion — Sep 10, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of our great picnic. This picture was on our way out of the zoo. That’s the wagon we rented. The boys are attempting to share the task of pushing it. Mostly they just pushed eachother.
