C’s trying so hard!
2007 July 4 · 1:48PM · Wednesday
There was this big pit of construction toys, wooden planks with plastic nuts and bolts. It took a fair amount of adult intervention (with the age of kids we were with, 4 to 6 year olds), but C enjoyed it and made a good effort.
I don’t suppose you noticed the mom nursing behind C. I love that it’s normal in Norway, YAY! I wonder if I’d get strange looks nursing my toddler there.

There was a real live tiny plane in the basement that the children were allowed to climb up into. Ruby’s patiently waiting her turn.

There was a little wind tunnel so that children could see how a wing works. Ruby is standing in front of the vent.

These three tubes were filled with liquids of various viscosities. There were foot pedals that made bubbles go up in the tubes, and you could see the different rates the air bubbles travelled in the various liquids. Hallvord’s nephew is really jumping up and down on that pedal!

This was filled with water and there was a wheel to turn that made a little whirlpool in the water.

Ruby touches a globe

This was an awesome looking globe with pearly stuff inside. You could spin it, and it demonstrated the coriolis effect.

This image was being projected on the floor from overhead, and I assume there are motion detectors trained in the area which control the movements of the fish in relation to the masses of children wriggling all over the floor here.

The upper levels of the museum have old trains, street cars, cars, and planes on display. This was on an old train.

On one of the upper floors there was a table for constructing rockets, and a air-propulsion mechanism for shooting them. Boy, was that fun.

It was actually quite challenging for him, and Hallvord was very nice to help him as much at he could.
Ruby back downstairs

After we ate our little picnic, we went back downstairs and Ruby found a constructed car that someone left behind.

She found this little car and delighted in scooting around in it, especially because she wasn’t entirely in control and would occasionally scoot in little circles.

C sometimes plays a driving game with Ruby (I think at school too). One person is the “driver” and the second person sits next to the driver and is the “shobst driver”. No, we don’t know what that means. Could be Norwegian, but I haven’t been able to decypher it yet.

Way back in July we went to the Norsk Teknisk Museum with our family friend Hallvord and his son and his nephew. It was great fun, and I would recommend it for anyone with children visiting Oslo. I thought it was cooler than OMSI, but maybe I should give OMSI another chance.
