Brewing Batch #4: Anise Stout

2007 July 1, Sunday · Hallings gate, Oslo, Norway

MORE +

Chris’s officemate, Stanislav, brought over his newly arrived family (with their new arrival, Phillip, 3 months old), and we brewed our fourth batch of beer. We decided to go for another stout, and we were intrigued by the legends of a truly “beer” root beer. We don’t have sassafrass or sasparilla or wintergreen or any other the other ingredients only available in North America, so we went with one simple flavor addition: anise. Reminiscent of Virgil’s root beer (a fave), we thought this would be a good baby step towards true “beer” root-beer.

grain bag turnin’

We didn’t have any fancy nylon grain steeping bags, so we bought some nylon pantyhose and cut it up into five grain bags. Here’s one in action!

Kind of sad this is the closest thing to a picture of me this week! Look closely at the reflection in the ball, above the big black dot that is the camera lense, there’s me!

This Week’s Composite

2007 July 1, Sunday

This was the composite I made for the physical album. Missing me and Chris, but people really only care about the kids right :) There were pictures of Chris though I’m sure he would complain about his hair being goofy in that picture. There’s only one of me this week, … sort of

Incidentally, I think this was the point around which I stopped making detailed weekly notes … too bad.
