Artsy Birthday Party

Earlier last month, we went to a friend’s birthday party. Being artsy types, it was arranged that lots of the guests would sing or give a performance of some kind. The birthday boy asked Chris to show off with the juggling clubs. It was a very fun party, even though we didn’t know most of the people there. The hostess is Japanese, so you can guess how stoked we were about the food. The birthday boy and the hostess have two adorable children who are great fun to play with, too.

It was a huge pan of sushi rice with ginger, shrimp, seaweed, and little red roe all over. I think maybe there was lotus root, too.

I took this picture and later realized that Ruby is clothed head-to-toe in Grandma Susie! Grandma Susie finds lots of hidden treasures in the lost and found at school, which she sends to us. But also, she made the scarf and Ruby’s dress! (Thanks mom!)

The children love playing with them, usually walking back and forth with the clubs like walking sticks.

There was a neat-looking huge iron grill thing in one part of the courtyard which had been filled with these big outdoor party candles.

Aww, I miss walking around town and seeing those candles. We really hope to come late this summer or maybe early fall!!

I know, those candles seem so “Oslo” to me. I hope we don’t miss you when you come visit, we are planning to go to the States in late summer/ early fall!

He really liked the red roe. I wish I knew what kind it was, I would totally get some!

This totally looks like Sara Ellen eating. We don’t have much of a spot for her to sit and make a mess eating. Perhaps it’s because I don’t want to clean up, perhaps it’s because I want her to get food. It’s like a little bird aiming for the target. Recently however, she really wants to feed herself, especially when it comes to a spoon and applesauce (“appys”) or yogurt.

Chris is juggling, and C makes a beeline for the fire!

I think this girl was the birthday boy’s sister, or cousin, or something. Anyway, she sat down to check her email and C was right there, telling her what to click and stuff. He loves computers.
