Waffle Time

2007 April 1, Sunday · Hallings gate, Oslo, Norway

MORE +

We got a waffle maker a few weeks ago, and we’ve been making up for lost time. On this morning, we were all set to eat together at the kitchen table, but C suddenly jumped up, declared he and Ruby were going to eat at the little table and ran off to set it with a tablecloth and their plates, etc. Incidentally, this tablecloth was made by Great-grandma Weeks. Thanks great-grandma!

Ruby and C enjoying waffles

2007 April 1 · 10:28AM · Sunday

You can see that our waffle maker makes the cute heart-shaped Norwegian waffles.

In other exciting news… C’s been very intent on writing recently, especially numbers, and recognizes lots of letters. I think it’s from observing his friends’ name tags at school because I haven’t taught him the upper case letters (and his teacher has straight-out told me she is not doing any reading/writing work with him until he is speaking better Norwegian [fume, fume]).

Monday C stayed home and spent time with Chris who was taking a day off to make up for all the extra time he was away travelling. I had a job interview Monday! It seemed to go really well. Chris stayed home Tuesday, too. C went to school, and Ruby and I met Erin for coffee. She’s an Australian woman I met through INN. She’s not a knitter, but she is a cross-stitcher which I think qualifies her for our Stitch-n-Bitch! We had coffee at an organic bakery I recently discovered… made me homesick for Portland (where that kind of thing is not hard to find). No game night Wednesday because Chris is still jetlaggy, and Thursday I skipped Norwegian. Thursday C stayed home from school againg because they had a freaking clown come to his school. Don’t even get me started! I kept him home Friday, too, because next week is Easter vacation and I thought it was dumb to send him just one day before missing a whole week. He’s been a joy to have at home, though. There is a predicatble amount a screaming and sister-baiting, but I see him working and concentrating (makes me think maybe his “Montessori” school is good for something after all). And we are having such interesting conversations.

Our weekend was spent at home, eating waffles, playing with computers (C: Mario Cart, Chris: pine.fm work, Katy: knitting blogs :), and enjoying each other’s company. Mostly. The weather has been so beautifully nice and springy. I’m glad it’s finally here.
