Weekend Forest Visit

2006 October 8, Sunday · Nordmarka, Oslo, Norway

The weather was truly beautiful this weekend. And it was clear that this would be the last nice weekend for a while… winter is descending quickly! We made the trek out to the forest again, and visited some new trails. C found the very last blueberry in all of the forest. He said it tasted good.

There was a beautiful stream and Chris went exploring the banks.

C and the babbling brook

2006 October 8 · 11:09AM · Sunday

This movie is a little long. It starts out a little jiggly because Ruby is grabbing my arm, trying not to fall into the stream. But then I pan the camera over the stream and off down into the little valley where it is burbling.

Chris, Ruby, C, Katy taken by surprise

2006 October 8 · 11:14AM · Sunday

I set the timer — we all saw the light blinking — but we all look vaguely unprepared to have our pictures taken.

Forest Sunday Picture

2006 October 8 · 11:15AM · Sunday

We had a very busy week this week. We got a new fridge (well, new to us anyway :) which Johannes helped us transport home (5 blocks on the wagon) and install. Then he stayed for dinner, which was nice.

The Oslo schools were all on autumn break this week, including C’s school. I wasn’t really looking forward to having him home for a whole week, because I know he’s really enjoying being at school and I was afraid he would start acting out in frustration at not being able to go. But the opposite happened: he was so helpful and sweet this week, working with Ruby and being really careful of her, and concentrating on his own work really well also. I can really see the normalizing effect of his classroom environment carrying over. I’m glad he’s finally getting what he needs. He missed the gross-motor activities at school, I think, because he’s taken to stripping the couch of its cushions and piling them up, fort-like (the cushions are very large and heavy and he works hard to move them).

Chris had a business trip to Sweden this week, and was gone Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We missed him, but we survived. Lauren was a big help, as always. Though she started her new job this week, so was gone Friday for an orientation at the house (it’s a nanny job). He resumed work on his font (left off more than a year ago, I think) this weekend.

This week I rediscovered knitting. I stumbled upon knitty.com, and started exploring the online knitting world from there. I haven’t started a project yet, but I’m gearing up to knit an article of clothing. Maybe I’ll actually finish that sweater that I started 9 years ago, while travelling with Sally!

We capped off the week with a visit to the forest, to squeeze the last bit of enjoyment out of the waning autumn weather.

Ruby’s usually a little more photogenic than this…
