Christmas Market at the Folk Museum — December 6, 2009

Ruby and I went to the Christmas market at the Folk Museum at the last minute. The guys didn’t want to go, and we left Apl with them since it was going to be cold and drizzly according to the forecast. Forecast, ha! It didn’t rain at all, and it was not really cold (for the season! :).

We did all the traditional Christmas market stuff (traditional for us, anyway): gingerbread on a stick, candle dipping, cardamom donuts, waffles, browsing the knitted items at the stalls, and Ruby asking “mama, can we get that?” about everything. Great fun!

I was cleaning up, Chris was playing with his camera… and he decided to keep this picture. :)

Too Dark Afternoon — December 9, 2009 at 2 pm

Midwinter, it’s too dark for my phone to take decent pictures inside even in the afternoon. But the baby is so cute! Can’t resist!

Perfect Forest House — Dec 10, 2009 at 11:02 am

I fell in love with this house near C’s old school. Grassy roof, stream flowing past with foot bridge, matching dog house at the back, right up against the edge of the forest. I’m sure it costs like a bazillion kroner.

Coy Apl — Dec 10, 2009 at 12:46 pm

We stopped in a cafe somewhere along the way, and Chris took this cute picture of the little lady.

Chris’s Special Mittens — Dec 2009 - Feb 2010

Chris had a good idea for a mitten design, and proceeded to turn the whole notion of “mitten” on its head (literally!). We discussed the design at length and Chris decided on these important points: it is to be knit from the fingers down (so that the knit “arrows” point out to the fingertips), it should have a more subtle pattern than traditional Norwegian knits while still being two colors, the right hand has a separate index finger, and the index and thumb on the right hand are tipless. These last features makes this the perfect mittens for operating a camera in cold weather.

Waiting for Christmas — December 11, 2009

Recently Chris got his own gift on the office gift exchange (that shouldn’t be possible, right? Riiiiiight.) It was a Rubik’s cube and it started a Rubik-revelation around here. Did you know they make Rubik’s cubes with 4 squares to a side? 5? 7? 2? Did you know that they make Rubik’s cubes that are not even cubes? We own all these now.

Ethan’s Hat — Dec 12, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Ethan made this hat. Ruby likes it because it is such pretty colors!
