funny faces — July, 2009

I can really see Ruby’s idiosyncratic style forming here. She draws amusingly expressive faces (I think that one has a mustache, a la papa).

people and flowers — July, 2009

I mislabelled this one clearly, it was 2009 and not 2008 because this was drawn on the back of my Yarn Harlot Page-A-Day calendar.

Onward! — Jul 2, 2009 at 10:05 am

The wagon has had a long and fruitful life with us, serving as stroller, portable outdoor crib/play pen, and general plaything. Now we use it most for hauling stuff to the park for our extended picnics. The kids take turns pulling, though the adults usually do the bulk of this task.

July Pi — July-August, 2009

The July project from the Knitter’s Almanac is a large round shawl. Elizabeth Zimmermann lays out the rules for basic round shawl shaping, stating a simple plan for increase rows at larger and larger intervals, between which you can easily work whatever pattern you wish without worrying about shaping and pattern at the same time. This shawl knit up surprisingly fast, despite being rather large. I didn’t measure the finished dimensions, but it’s at least 5 feet in diameter and drapes comfortable across the shoulders.

Celebration — July 4, 2009

It was a quiet 4th of July celebration, just up at Auntie Lauren’s with some pool time and barbeque.

Ruby is an Arteest — July 6, 2009 at 3 pm

Ruby is following her muse. She picked put her own very artistic outfit, took the little table out onto the balcony (with a little help), and set herself up for painting. Watercolors are her favorite.

At the Castle — July 8, 2009

I’ve been trying to get the family out more often, with mixed success. It has been rainy for weeks, and I wanted to take advantage of a less-rainy day. Chris and Ruby had to go to the doctor, and afterword we took a little trip up to the Akershus fortress and castle. We didn’t actually go in, but we walked around the grounds and the courtyard. Neat place!

Funny Hat Model — Jul 10, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I just finished knitting this hat (as part of the June project) and was trying to get the kids to model it for me. Apl was the only one who was willing to. After Ruby saw how much fun it was, she wanted in the picture, too, but not the hat.
