Visit to a family Cemetery in Apple River — September, 2008 |
A while back, Dad and I attempted to find the cemetery in Apple River. We weren’t able to find it. Dad sent me these pictures this autumn, after he took his Dad for a drive and they were able to find the cemetery.

Bonjour Cousins — September, 2008 |
That’s Grandpa Glenn in the center/back, with his surviving Bonjour cousins. I’m not sure who each one is. Paul (Glenn’s father) had 11 siblings, so that’s lots of offspring for me to keep track of!

Apl, age -5 months — September 3, 2008 |
I never posted these before because I didn’t think there was really much interesting or striking about these photos. I found the whole experience slightly unsettling (we didn’t have ultrasounds with C or Ruby), but Chris really enjoyed it. He felt like it was the first time he was able to really connect with the baby, to really experience it as something more than just a bulge in my belly (she hadn’t started kicking yet). But, anyway, I scanned them in a recent scan-fest. So, there you go.

Shopping for Old Camera Stuff — September 6, 2008 at 2 pm |
Me and C went to an antique store nearby to look for old camera stuff. I bought a little 50mm lens there, a lovely little Pentax f/2.0, with manual aperture ring! It’s so cute. And because the flange-to-film distance of the Pentax K mount is greater than the Canon EF mount (god bless wikipedia), it gives me a bit of wiggle-room for more tilting experiments!

Reversed 14mm Macrography — September 7-8, 2008 |
My first serious attempt at getting good pictures out of my new reversing adaptor for my 14mm lens. I drilled a smallish hole into a rear lens cap to act as a lens hood, and it made a big difference (and makes me feel a lot better, as it was making me nervous having the rear all exposed like that… this was not a cheap lens). Also used a rubber ring for the camera to sit on to dampen vibrations, and mirror lock-up, and the little remote-clicker-thing so that I didn’t have to touch the actual camera. Worked well! The first two are with the lens reversed for around 6.2x macro, while the last two are with my extension tubes as well, for even more…
