Formerly Blank White Cards — January, 2008

About two years ago, soon after we moved here, we started having a regular game night. At first we didn’t have many board games of our own, so looked up some games we could play with minimal equipment. I found 1000 blank cards, which was a lot of fun though it needs to be played with the right crowd. So, we had a lot of these blank cards left over, and C discovered them one day in our stack of games. He asked if he could use some and this is what he did.

I knit this for Ben, both because it’s perfect for him, and becaue he’s the only person I know who could truly appreciate it. It’s a replica of a hat/minor plot point in a fantastic and short lived TV show created by my favorite man in Hollywood (that would be Firefly, and Joss Whedon of course.) I think Ben liked it.

Selection of C’s Art Work — January-July, 2008

Here’s a selection of C’s art work from the first half of the year. Some of them I’ve saved from home, but most of his drawing work comes from school.

The Eye of Java — 2008

This was the dregs of Chris’s coffee that he likes to swirl around to see the patterns. No, we don’t drink blue coffee. Chris did a palette switch or something in his photo editing program. But it looks pretty cool.

The Kitchen Job — January 1, 2008 at 3 pm

At last the kitchen wallpaper all came down and we were deciding on the final colors that would make the place less moldy-hole feeling. I think we did a good job. Thanks dad!

First Evening Without Grandma — January 3, 2008

Mom had to go back early to return to school. I convinced Dad to stay longer so we wouldn’t have to do so much kitchen work while mom was with us. So we got down to work after she left.

And Chris borrowed a new lens from someone for wider angle shots, so there are a lot of whole-room shots now.

Mostly Auntie Lauren — January 4, 2008 at 7 pm

Chris was experimenting with a new lens or something. Lauren’s always ready with a pose. Funny lady. This was also the night that Lauren gave C his pretty brown scarf.

More work on the kitchen — January 5, 2008 at 12 pm

We got to the trim finally, and decided to help the paint finish flaking before we painted over it and let it start flaking anew. C was finally allowed to indulge his heart’s desire, which is chipping paint. Yeah, I was kind of weirded out by chipping paint in an old house but it’s not like they eat it or anything and this paint-chipping session was over fast. And now it’s all painted fresh and non-chippy.

Grandpa Randy and C telling stories — January 6, 2008 at 2 pm

Grandpa Randy and C sat together on the sofa, and grandpa told C a story. I think it was about airplanes and flying in the bush in Alaska. C loved it.

Ethan checks out my new fermentor! — Jan 6, 2008 at 2:24 pm

I got a new conical fermentor for wine. We thought it would be easier to let out the yeast and trub out of that bottom nozzle than to rack the wine every few weeks. It’s kind of experimental — we haven’t found much info about it on the internet. Ethan helped me put the special stretchy tape on the threads to really seal the parts that screw together. You can see it’s from Mini Brew, in Temecula, California.
