I was photographing a knitting project in-process; the kids were saying “hey! pay attention to us!” Remind you of anyone?

C’s Photo Shoot — June 10, 2007 |
A while back, I wanted to get some knitting done and C wanted to play with the camera. We compromised. It was a win-win situation.

Kid Jumble — Jun 11, 2007 at 1:38 am |
We’ve had a new bedtime routine recently: C lays down around 7:45 or 8, and is out like a light by 8:10. Then we set Ruby down, and she usually goes to sleep really quickly, too. We were putting her to sleep in a different room and then moving her to the bedroom whenever she woke up in the night (not “if”, “when” :). I think she goes to sleep faster with C sending out his sleepy vibes. Sometimes we’ll find them holding hands, or kicking eachother in the face, or just all jumbled up. Remind you of anything?

C and the Sea Monkeys — Jun 11, 2007 at 8:32 am |
Our dear friend Mercedes sent C a birthday package, including some Sea Monkeys. We didn’t start them right away, but C was excited about them when we did. I think they are kind of creepy! Lauren supervised the initial birth and care-taking of the sea monkeys, but it’s fallen to me to do the “aerating” (pouring them back and forth in another glass to get oxygen in the water). It’s too delicate for the kids to do, but they love simulating it with any two glasses and liquid they can find. Aside from the Sea Monkeys, it’s been a quiet week. The weather is still really nice. I’m still knitting and sewing a lot. Ruby was feeling a little sick, but quickly got over it.

C’s Wallet — June 11, 2007 at 9 am |
C’s had this old wallet since we lived in Portland. I made it for him to have during our journey to Oslo. There are fake credit cards inside with family members’ photos on them. I wanted him to keep in touch with our family and dear friends who would be further away; to stay familiar with them by seeing their pictures often. I just added two new ones, Jen and Noah’s family Christmas picture, and Matt and Tracy’s recent family photo.

Ruby sewing — Jun 14, 2007 at 11:30 am |
I’ve been mostly obsessed with knitting lately, but for some reason a litte wave of sewing came over me briefly and I dusted off the sewing machine and made a skirt. I also cut out a shirt, but the wave has come and gone and I never finished it. Ruby herself by doing a little sewing, also.

Renaissance of the Sling — June 16, 2007 at 5 pm |
Ruby was not feeling well, and I had to wake her up to go pick up C that day. We hadn’t used the sling in a while, but I dug it out. I was surprised that she still wanted to ride in it. In fact she loved it. I was surprised how well she fit still.

C’s train block — Jun 18, 2007 at 6:01 pm |
C set up a boulder in the path of his train. It’s a piece of clay he made at school. It has some patterning on one side. The other lump of clay, on the rug, is a “snowball”. Yeah, he made a clay snowball. He says “That was the thing of this falling over.” Eloquent.

Line 54 at Dagens Bakery — June 20, 2007 |
I reached a little milestone in my knitting, and took a few photos at a bakery that Ruby and I visited on the way home from dropping C at school. I usually don’t fritter the mornings away at cafes with Ruby (no, really, we head straight home and I set to hands-and-knees mopping, every day!), but I have been pretty intent on this knitting and thought she might enjoy the change of pace of a cafe while mama stares at the yarn for another hour. She did enjoy it, and we got the added bonus of the cafe being empty at 10 in the morning so she ran around and tried out all the chairs and charmed the barista.

Ruby Knitting — Jun 20, 2007 at 12:02 pm |

Ruby put one of my circular knitting needles around herself like a belt and said she was knitting.
