Visit from Talon — July, 2006

These pictures were taken during a visit from Talon this summer. I can’t believe how grown up he looks! What a handsome boy.

Juggling in the Park — July 1, 2006

We haven’t been doing much juggling lately, especially not in the winter. We decided it was finally time to do some serious juggling. If we expect C to be doing a 3 ball cascade by his 4th birthday, we’ve got some work to do!

After nap we brought a picnic to the park with all of our juggling stuff. Johannes joined us and he and Chris practiced some passing. Auntie Lauren was hanging out with her new friends, so couldn’t join us.

A trip to Frogner Park — July 2, 2006

We visited Frognerpark. We thought Lauren would enjoy it (it’s a must-see for anyone visiting Oslo), and the childrens always enjoy going. Also, there was an early 4th of July celebration and we wanted to check it out. It wasn’t so great, there was an “American” band singing Elvis songs and various groups (like the Oslo American Women’s Club, and the International School) who had booths selling American foods like donuts and sloppy joes. The American Women’s Club had a used book tent, which was the highlight for me. I got a bunch of nice books (in English), and we even bought Candlyland. After all that we went to our current favorite pizza place, which is near Frogner.

Ruby stopped to smell these flowers as we were out shopping today.

Rootbeer! — Jul 5, 2006 at 12:02 pm

We visited the one store in Oslo that sells root beer. A rare treat! We’ve only had root beer one other time in the last 10 months. So sad…

Sushi Tonight! — July 5, 2006

We made sushi for dinner. I’ve been craving it, so finally got around to making some for us. It’s just California rolls, basically. I also wanted to try a roll with some crayfish, which I discovered in Spain to be very good (in a paella, not sushi). But I got dill-infused crayfish by accident. Bleh. Not good. I made some little child-sized rolls with tamago (omelet). The kids loved them!

Trip to IKEA — July 7, 2006

We made a trip out to IKEA this morning with Lauren. Man I love that place! We got an early start, and being a weekday it was not too crowded, which was really nice. We did the usual tour around and picked up a few needed (and a few frivilous) things. I discovered that the fabrics/upholstery section has a remnants bin! We spent a lot of time in the children’s furniture section. We’ve been contemplating how to shift around our sleeping arrangements. 4 people in one bed, even a big one, is a little crowded. A very busy morning, and we got home in time for nap.

Opera Party at Huk — July 7, 2006

Kripanjali and some of the other people at Opera organized a treasure hunt (using Opera Mini on cell phones and such) for the ex-pat crowd at Opera. We skipped to the end because we thought is seemed adult-oriented and would actually not be that much fun for the children. We met Krips and a few other Opera people at Huk and waited for the rest of the group to show up. Huk is a very nice nature-walk and beach area. While we were waiting we had fun with party hats and played in the Oslofjord a bit. We also got to know some of Chris’s co-workers a bit better. Lauren ended up staying after we took the children home, and went out with a bunch of them and had a great time.

Crazy Napping C — Jul 8, 2006 at 5:43 pm

I never know what I’m going to find when I let C loose to nap in the bedroom. This time, he dumped the laundry baskets all over the bed. On closer inspection I noticed that he also put one of Chris’s socks on his arm, all the way past his elbow. And then fell asleep like that!

I find the most bizarre things — July 16, 2006 at 9 am

Puttering around the kitchen, I find the toy dog with his head stuffed into the cat food box. I asked C what was going on.
