Ruby in the Yellow Dress — May 1, 2006 at 11 am |
Mom made this yellow dress for Ruby. I wanted to take some cute pictures of her in it… I didn’t notice until later that Ruby was wearing socks and one shoe that matched neither each other nor the dress. Well, I’m no fashionista…

C decorates his castle for May 17 — May 1, 2006 at 12 pm |
May 17th is Norway’s July 4th equivalent, so we decided to spruce up C’s castle with some Norwegian flags. He loved it. We’ve kept them up for almost two months now!

Moving the Beer — May 1, 2006 at 11 pm |
The next step in the beer making process was moving the beer from the big plastic tub, where it had been quietly bubbling away for a couple of weeks, to this big glass jug. Not sure why… but we kept it covered and at a constant room temperature, and we continued to watch the little thing on the top bubble. It lets gases out, but nothing in.

The weather has warmed up enough for us to start having lunch on the balcony, which we have been enjoying very much. This day was very bright!

Game Night with Alan’s Card Game — May 3, 2006 at 11 pm |
Alan brought over a new game for us to try on game night. Before I started playing a lot of games I thought “card game” meant something played with your standard deck of heart-diamond-spade-club cards. Canasta, poker, whatever. I’ve been happy to find out that there are lots of other games involving cards. I can’t remember the name of this one, though!

Children at work — May 4, 2006 at 9 am |
The children were engaged in various activities today. Ruby was using our new work rug with the blocks. She seemed to enjoy the challenge of stacking them. C made an interesting pattern with his train tracks while Ruby was busy with the blocks.

We’d had these pieces of cardboard around the house since we got C’s new chair at IKEA. Before bedtime, Ruby found one and put it on her head.

Visiting a New Park — May 6, 2006 |
We recently found a new park near our house, and it’s great! It’s in the middle of the student housing near us, so there are a lot of families with young children around. C enjoyed the climbing wall, though he never climbed very high. He mostly just put pebbles on the hand-holds. There was a very large snakey structure for climbing, and a very nice big sandbox. On the way home, Ruby was so tired she was falling asleep. It was too early for nap, so to avoid letting her fall asleep, we let her walk. I think she was actually sleepwalking some of the way home. It was really funny. (So funny I couldn’t even take a picture of how she was walking with both arms out in front of her and her head bowed, but I took a couple after we woke her up from the sleepwalking).

Sunday Picture from Pilestredet — May 7, 2006 |
This week was looking up, weather-wise. We were getting ready for our trip to Spain, trying to work out all the details. One of the details was getting C non-winter shoes. We found him these cute blue sandals. We also got a package from Grandma Wendy recently; she sent Ruby and C a couple of musical toys and a Sudoku book and game for me and Chris. We’d never tried Sudoku before, and I have to admit it’s sorta fun. It was interesting to solve the puzzle of puzzle-solving… I mean, to discover the strategies for solving the puzzles. C liked to watch me write the numbers, too. He’s been learning his numbers lately and can write a pretty nice “1”!

Playing in the Courtyard on a Summery Day — May 7, 2006 at 12 pm |
It was a really lovely day, so we went out back. We opened up the sandbox, which had been neglected all winter. We played for a bit with the push wagon and both C and Ruby really enjoyed taking turns pushing and riding. C is wearing my old Aloha shirt.
