Chris, Ruby, and C sat down to play a good game of roll-the-ball. Pretty cute!

Ruby on the bus to IKEA — Apr 4, 2006 at 1:04 pm |
Ruby was getting a little grumpy on the bus out to IKEA so I wrapped my scarf around her head to distract her. It worked for a minute, but she looks like she is rapidly descending back into unhappiness in this picture. I wanted to snap one because I thought the scarf complimented her eyes really well. Maybe it came out better in real life, though.

Crown of IKEA — April 4, 2006 |
We went to IKEA earlier this week and got a few new things. One of them was a new chair for C. He had been sitting in our regular dining chairs, but it wasn’t quite tall enough for him, he was always trying to sit on his knees or just stand in it; and the booster seat we tried didn’t work either (and it scratched up the chair). When we were in the cafeteria at IKEA Chris noticed a nice children’s chair — sort of a cross between a regular little children’s chair and a bar stool. So we brought one home and when they were putting it together, they found a surprise in the box: cardboard crowns!

One of C’s Favorite Things — April 4, 2006 at 3 pm |
Raindrops on roses? Whiskers on kittens? Nope, one of C’s favorite things is bubble wrap. He’s got that far-away look in his eyes because he is concentrating so hard on popping those little bubbles.

Just another day at Tarnhuset — April 7, 2006 |
We haven’t been going to the play group as much these days — these pictures are from almost a month ago! Anyway, they are just a few pictures of the things the children enjoy the most at the play group: Ruby loves the large movement room with ladder, slide and tunnel and C loves to cook in the play-kitchen. One time when C was playing in the kitchen, he went and got all the pigs out of the box of animals and put them in a pot. He showed me, proudly exclaiming “C cooking pigs!” As a semi-vegetarian, I found this a little disturbing! C also likes to cook his frogs at home. What a funny guy.

Sunday Picture Collection — April 9, 2006 |
This week was just like any other… a couple days at barnehage, a couple days at home. Chris took a day off this week and we went to IKEA. Very nice to do this during the week, instead of on the weekend. The special IKEA bus is packed to uncomfortableness on the weekends, and the store is hard to navigate with so many people. There were still tons of people, even on a weekday, though! We bought C a little chair with long legs for the table. He just doesn’t quite fit in an adult chair yet. He and Chris had lots of fun putting it together, together. The cardboard crowns in the picture are from that. The day after our IKEA trip, Ruby got pretty sick. I think this is the first relatively serious illness she’s gotten. She had a fever and couldn’t keep down any food. But it was just 24 hours (and almost exactly 24 hours, it was weird), so that’s good.

A few pictures before bed — April 9, 2006 at 7 pm |
I realized we didn’t take any good pictures this week, so I snapped a few of the children before bed… something for the Sunday picture. This was the night Ruby got sick. She was throwing up and fevery all Monday but got over it in about 24 hours. Luckily no one else succumbed.

C Broke the Camera — April 10, 2006 at 7 am |
These are the pictures that C took right before he broke the camera. We are not sure what he did to it, but the lens won’t extend properly now, and we have to zoom all the way in (which extends the lens) and then pull it out with our fingers. We can still take pictures with it, but it’s quite a process to get it properly focussed. The moral of the story is, I guess, don’t let your two-year-old play with your expensive relatively new camera. Duh.

A Rainy Afternoon Stroll — April 13, 2006 at 11 am |
Even though it was raining, we felt we needed to get out of the house. We’ve been enjoying the prospect of a sunny spring, with the reality that spring is sometimes cold, wet and windy. So we went for a walk through the graveyard nearby. It’s a nice, quiet, open place to let the kids run around.
