Ruby’s Pompador — March 1, 2006 at 6 pm

We took a shower right before naptime today, and this is what Ruby’s hair looked like when she woke up. Watch out, Elvis!

So it begins… — Mar 2, 2006 at 11:10 pm

I just put up my first few Schoeneman pictures.

I scanned a ton of pictures at Grandma Bonjour’s house this summer (really, over 2000 pictures). I haven’t been devoting my full attention to this project; moving, settling into Oslo, getting this website up and running, and raising two children have demanded most of my time lately. But I’ve been browsing and dating and organizing them on and off for the last 6 months. It was getting a little overwhelming, and the pay-off (that is, posting them to the website) was looking pretty far off on the horizon. Then I realized I didn’t need to date and organize all of them before I started putting them up. In fact, having some of them organized and grouped on the website should make the task of comparison-dating even easier! So, I will be putting up little batches of old pictures now and then.

I have really really enjoyed seeing and examining these pictures. There are some real gems. The scanned images make it much easier to notice interesting little details, too, like house numbers, or license plates, or even simple things like shoe styles. I love it! I feel so much closer to my heritage; I feel like these people really are a part of me, even though I hardly knew any of them. Preserving this information for the future (Ruby, C, and whoever else is to come) makes me feel really good.

Snowy Afternoon At Home — March 3, 2006

It has been so cold and snowy, we have hardly gone out for days. The children have been getting a little cabin fever — so have I. It snowed yet again today, and it was quite lovely. It’s not as cold as back home (in Fairbanks), but it sure feels colder when you’re schlepping groceries with no car.

Notice anything about this Pizza box? — Mar 4, 2006 at 6:51 pm

America’s not front-and-center on this picure of the world. Not something Americans often see… :)

Just a little Movie — Mar 5, 2006 at 7:53 am

This is just a little movie of Ruby talking to herself. She climbed up onto the sofa and is examining something, making happy little noises.

Ruby and the Plug Box — March 5, 2006 at 9 am

When we moved to Oslo, we had a variety of electrical items and adaptors, but there are different considerations of voltage, wattage, and amperage (or something like that) and it was really hard to predict what would work. We tried to plug in our big speaker system and blew a fuse, then tried again with a different adaptor and saw a big green flash inside the subwoofer. Needeless to say, that was a bad sign. It was under warranty, and I guess random electrical experimentation was covered by the warranty, so they sent us a whole new set of speakers. We took all the stuff out of the inside of the old subwoofer and modified it for the children to use: They use some cords to plug in the back, and there is a switch to toggle also. There is a nice hole in one side to stick things in (children love sticking stuff in other stuff) and a big hole in the bottom to get everything out. C totally loved the “Plug Box” and Ruby has started to use it this week, too. She works very hard at it.

New Birdie at the Window — Mar 5, 2006 at 12:01 pm

There was a new bird eating our bird food today. I don’t know what kind of bird it is, but it’s bigger than the other songbirds we usually get. Dad said if we put the food on the ledge instead of hanging from the tree, that we would get bigger birds. And we did!

Sunday Picture Shoot — March 5, 2006 at 12 pm

We haven’t taken very many sit-down-everybody Sunday Pictures lately, so I organized one. Ruby is wearing her new dress from Grandma Susie. We set the timer up on the camera and we took a few normally, then we let C push the button a couple times. Hence the kinda wacky pictures at the end.

Sunday Afternoon — March 5, 2006

After we took the Sunday Picture today, I took a few more pictures of Ruby and C and Chris built a fire. It’s been very very cold this week, and snowed almost every day.

Movie of Papa and Ruby Dancing — Mar 5, 2006 at 5:41 pm

It’s happy funtime at the Pines’! Papa and Ruby are dancing to some Stereolab and C is pounding on things with the large rubber mallet.
