We were in the paper! — February-December, 2006

When we got home from our Portugal vacation, Lauren had saved this newspaper for us. Last year someone interviewed us at an INN ice skating party, and they interviewed everyone again this year when we visited the Oslo Folkmuseum. The article is titled “Oslo for Beginners.”

At Tårnhuset — February 1, 2006

Another morning at the playgroup. I started taking pictures around lunchtime. Ruby makes a bunch of cute/weird/different faces. Then she and C work on the legos. Later, we were in the large-movement room and C and Ruby used the slide with a nice little boy named William (that’s “Vee-lee-ahm”).

Ruby playing with her ears — Feb 1, 2006 at 7:34 pm

It’s striking how different the children are from each other. Given this fact, there are strange similarities…

A little Norewgian lesson — Feb 2, 2006 at 12:00 pm

It took me about 30 seconds looking at this package to figure out what the words meant the first time I ever saw it. Yes, it’s a chocolate bar called “quick lunch”.

Our new sled — February 3, 2006 at 12 pm

Today we got a new sled, in preparation for our skiing trip. We will bundle up Ruby and put her in the sled, for Chris to pull behind him as he skis. The children are exploring the new sled in the kitchen.

Skiing! — February 4, 2006

We went skiing this weekend with the ex-pats group from Opera. Just a half an hour out of town on the subway, there was a little ski-rental hut and a nice area to try it out. None of us had ever been skiing before. It wasn’t the crazy bum-bruising fiasco I thought it would be, but I definitely did not feel as graceful on the skis as the Norwegians looked. Ruby, of course, did not ski. We bundled her up and put her in the sled and we attached it to the backpack on Chris like a harness. It was pretty cute. C was a good sport and tried the skis for about 20 minutes or so before he announced he was done. By that point, Ruby was done being in the sled so I held her while Chris ski-pulled C around in the sled.

Ruby loves to play peek-a-boo through and around the wood stove’s door when I clean it.

Welcome Back! — Feb 6, 2006 at 2:04 am

After 6 months of a static pine.fm, we are back up! It was a lot (a lot) of work, and many late nights, but it’s finally done. … Well, sort of done. We are preparing a few more features (commenting!), and there is a lot of catching up to do.

But, please enjoy your time here. Giggle at the children’s antics. Ooh and aah at their adorable cuteness. Explore a little slice of life in Oslo. Dig into the archives and see what we’ve been up to the last 6 months. I’ve got a back log of events to post, but I’ll get around to putting everything up as soon as I can!
