E — January, 2006

I’m not sure not exactly on the date, but we started most of our work with the sandpaper letters at the beginning of last year. We traced them with our fingers, and traced them in sand, like you are supposed to. But we also did rubbings like this (which I’m not sure is a Montessori-approved activity). You can see on the left, and the upper right, where C attempted to draw an e also!

Wacky Night — January 1, 2006 at 7 pm

While I cleaned up after dinner, Chris and the kids played around in the living room with Ander.

Pasta Face — January 1, 2006 at 7 pm

We had linguine with olive-tomato sauce tonight. Ruby, predictably, got very messy. Then Chris took a bunch of pictures of her with pasta on her face. Ruby sure does make a lot of different faces!

Movie of Ruby Carrying the Puzzle — Jan 5, 2006 at 10:58 am

Wow, what a mess the children made! C and the cats spread a ball of yarn all over. Ruby got the large puzzle off the shelf, and dumped all the pieces on the floor. And in this movie, she tried to carry the puzzle frame over to the sofa. It was hard work for her, and she didn’t quite make it. She is pretty upset for a few seconds, but by the end of the movie she is just practicing her sad-face.

C Sews — January 5, 2006 at 12 pm

I was finishing up a knitting project, sewing the seams, and C was interested in what I was doing. I made a little sewing card for him, and he happily sewed for quite a long time. I took a lot of pictures… I usually take a lot of pictures and delete the ones that aren’t so good, but this time I kept a lot of them. I loved to see the concentration and the fine motor movements.

Another visit to Tårnhuset — January 6, 2006

We’ve been going to the Tårnhuset playgroup a little less these days, since it now costs money (used to be free!). But, we still enjoy it about once a week. On this day, I tried to get pictures of the children’s favorite aspects of a Tårnhuset morning: the parachute after group songs, the xylophone, the big box of trains, and the other children.

A Composite Sunday Picture — January 8, 2006

Even though we haven’t been setting up formal Sunday Pictures too much recently, we still manage to get a picture of everyone in the family, most weeks. Actually, the cats are hardly ever in the pictures anymore. But they are usually hiding. Well, this week we got no pictures of Chris or me. Just some cute pictures of the kids. C has been challenging me to find new and interesting work for him at home, and this week he started sewing. Ruby has been her regular cute self, and working hard at walking.

C reading the Calendar — January 8, 2006

We recently took our All Roads calendar from last year down (thanks Mercedes!), and C put it in his book basket and has been looking at it all week.

On the ladder at Tårnhuset — January 11, 2006 at 12 pm

At Tårnhuset, there is a ladder on one wall, with a big red cushion below it. Recently Ruby has been climbing all over everthing, so I thought she would like the ladder. We tried it out, and she totally loved it. C, too. He climbed all the way to the top, jumped part of the way down and then layed on the big red cushion and flashed some Tårnhuset gang signs.

Movie of Ruby laughing with C — Jan 13, 2006 at 10:19 am

I was folding the laundry and Ruby got really excited when I started to fold the sheet. Like when we play with the parachute at playgroup!
