Phillip Frantically Signing — June 3, 2004 at 9 am |
We used simplified sign language at All Roads to help the children express themselves as much as possible. Phillip, for example, did not have a large spoken vocabulary, and also had a problem with delayed gratification. He found a lot of success with the signs, as for example in this series of photos.

We took a short flight home. It was short but the endless circling waiting to land was murder for me and my delicate early-pregnancy tummy.

A Summer Morning at School — June 9-10, 2004 |
It has been a lovely summer. C is just barely starting to walk, and he has been enjoying so many new things at school. He has been washing the dishes and using the handwashing table. Outside, he has been practicing crawling up the ramp and then pulling himself to a standing position at the top. He has also started to help water the plants outside. And as always, he enjoys using the push wagon.

C washes the snack dishes — June 10, 2004 |
Ok, maybe “washes” is a little generous. But, he swishes them around in the water a bit, and generally does some of the same things that the children do when they wash the dishes. He’s learning. I think he mostly enjoyed the feel of the water, and splashing the spoons in the water. Sensorial experiences like this are important to the developing brain.
